Forums: Index General Discussion On GameInformer content

GameInformer's May 2012 issue provides exclusive content for their digital subscribers. From what I heard, the contents are exclusive screenshots and concept arts. Since this content is exclusive only to digital subscribers, it is not for Halopedia to begin hosting such content. In fact, this would (not could) constitute as a significant infringement for depriving GameInformer of the potential profits they could have made. This applies also to scans of the magazine (for digital subscribers, screencapture of their digital magazine). We want this wiki to be as legally-compliant as it can be (note, the internet is taking quite a beating from copyright lobbyists all around the world and it is not winning); patrolling through hundreds of edits in an hour is not fun since no one is paid to do so.

Fair use does not apply. Don't even go there. This project page on copyright gives hints on what is legal, what is fair use, and what is not both. Yeah... hate me.— subtank 08:46, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Aw, mum, why can't we every do anything fun? :P -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 08:56, 11 April 2012 (EDT)
Legal iz srs biz. :P — subtank 08:57, 11 April 2012 (EDT)
Very serious business, indeed.-- Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 10:31, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Ugh, this site is too frakkin' boring. All fun and no play makes us unhappy girls. INFRINGE ON ALL THE COPYRIGHTS! Grizzlei

Ask Steve to host it outside the US and we don't have to worry about copyright. :P — subtank 14:09, 11 April 2012 (EDT)
How aboot Canada, eh? Grizzlei
Oh Canada, oh Canada, how I love thee.-- Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 22:58, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Wait, does this extend to halo.wikia as well? Because I recently uploaded some gameinformer pics that were pretty much shared with files on halo.wikia. I didn't know we had this so I guess I understand why they should be deleted, but shouldn't that site take it down as well?--Ender the Xenocide 05:59, 13 April 2012 (EDT)

They should, yes, but that doesn't mean they will. What they do has little to do with us any more. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 06:45, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
If they're caught, they could get in big trouble.-- Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 11:10, 13 April 2012 (EDT)

If people are still wondering, the safest time to post the images would be at the end of April... but this is still a grey area. — subtank 19:22, 13 April 2012 (EDT)

I'd recommend someone add this to the site news, so that people who eagerly think they're posting something new can be pointed here easier. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 23:38, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
Actually, site notice sounds more suiting and is more prominent to users. —S331 (COMMission LogProfile) 02:02, 14 April 2012 (EDT)

Famitsu.com has released images of Halo 4 on their website. Link. These images are allowed, right?-- Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions 09:28, 20 April 2012 (EDT)

2015 Bumping

Just bumping this old thread so that everyone is aware of what is and isn't appropriate when it comes to scanned images. As per above, uploading scanned images to the wiki and linking to them is a no no. This applies to referencing content as well. Just reference the magazine issue and the page number. Those of us who have the magazine can double check to make sure it's correct.--Spartacus TalkContribs 16:19, 9 June 2015 (EDT)

So that's a no for Canada, eh? Helianthus All right. Shoot!
