...on a recent video announcing something called the Halo Channel (which is basically Waypoint with a different name, I guess?). Specifically, a Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn scene description at the 0:55 mark:

"Lasky's classmates, particularly Walter Vickers, are unrelenting in their provocation of Thomas, affirming their distaste for the freshman who fails to live up to the example set by his brother and his mother, a UNSCDF colonel."

And here's something strangely similar found in our very own plot summary (and it's been there since the series originally aired, pretty much):

"Most of Lasky's classmates, particularly Walter Vickers, are unrelenting in their provocation of Thomas, affirming their distaste for the freshman who fails to live up to the example set by his brother and his mother, a UNSCDF colonel and former superior of CAMS professor, Colonel Mehaffey."

I have a pretty strong feeling this bit of text is original to this wiki and wasn't taken from an official synopsis. Someone in charge of this thing must've gotten lazy, I guess. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 10:32, 12 August 2014 (EDT)

That's actually kind of interesting. It's nice to know that some people from 343i consider Halopedia to be a reliable Halo source. I also noticed that they classified the Zealot from Forward Unto Dawn as a Minor. So laziness is very probable. - NightHammer (talk) 10:37, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
A blurb for a later episode also shown in the video is wholly original so it's possible this one is just a placeholder and will get ironed out before release. I have somewhat mixed feelings about 343i relying too much on Halopedia — fans can still make mistakes and I'd rather not see those mistakes incorporated to the canon, as has happened several times (most prominently with the Halo Encyclopedia, with the canonization of the 100% fanon name "the Sharpened Shield" or the misinterpretation of the United Rebel Front as the proper name of an organization). Even the first Visual Guide had a couple of these, such as the mention of a Kig-Yar Zealot which obviously came from Halopedia. But I do wish they monitored pages like the List of inconsistencies in the Halo series and used the information to do something about the inconsistencies (they actually did this with the internal discrepancies in the Tor reissues of the first three novels). --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 10:46, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
Yeah I agree with you. It's likely just a placeholder. I noticed a couple of other errors as well, so hopefully it all gets updated by November. - NightHammer (talk) 12:36, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
It's looking very promising, though. Looks like we'll be getting detailed bios for all characters in FUD and Nightfall plus info sheets for locales and items. This scene overlay thing with the info bits (or the whole Halo Channel) is probably the "interactive features" 343i has been talking about in relation to Nightfall. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 13:52, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
Something interesting I noticed during the trailer for the channel was a Pelican flying over a snowy mountain range, similar to that of Circinius IV's, with a destroyed UNSC frigate below. Then later, another Pelican flying in the clouds of a planet with a frigate (Paris-class I believe) emerging with the clouds. I don't know if this is footage from Nightfall or Guardians, but it looks great. - NightHammer (talk) 13:58, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
I once told a 343i employee to use halopedia instead of halo nation basically... let us do an impeccable job at maintaining this. Erickyboo (talk) 13:20, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
Just out of curiosity, did the employee in question bring up Halo fan wikis (or mention that they used HN) or did you just spontaneously tell them to use Halopedia? --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 13:52, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
He linked to an article on halo wiki. I think it was the mighty vociferous. Erickyboo (talk) 17:35, 12 August 2014 (EDT)
Oh, okay. That kind of thing still happens too often. Hope they know better now. At least the bit I noted in the OP is clearly from this wiki (HN shamelessly copied an earlier revision of the text to their Thomas Lasky article, but it's still noticeably different from ours, and they have no plot summary for FUD). Given their very apparent use of this wiki, I wish 343i would acknowledge us more clearly. I think they did highlight Halopedia's anniversary a couple of years back, but something like a link on the Halo Official Site would do wonders to our legitimacy and visibility.
On a side note, looking back, I wish that when the Halopedian administration still had influence within the Wikia site, we'd have suggested a more obscure name than "Halo Nation", which 343i uses as a synonym for the community. Then again, if everything had gone to plan and Wikia hadn't interfered it would've worked just fine. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 01:30, 13 August 2014 (EDT)
