This article is about the Type-29 variant. For the other versions of the Shade turret, see Shade.

Template:Vehicle Infobox The Type-29 Anti-Infantry Stationary Gun, abbreviated as Type-29 ASG, is a Covenant anti-infantry gun turret. It falls under the category of weapons emplacements commonly identified as Shades.[1] One of the oldest models of the Shade, with its history dating back hundreds of years, they are preferred by pious shipmasters for their antiquity.[2]

Design details

The T-29 ASG is mounted on a sturdy tripod, and the seat is floating on top of the said tripod. It fires three rounds of slow, purple plasma bolts at once, and has very limited precision and a medium rate of fire. Unlike the other known Shade variants, it can be moved, but usually by a large force. Its high mobility is used as a compensation for its low protection. The Type-29 Shade is inferior to other Shade models in terms of firepower and accuracy.[2]

Tactics

Halo: Combat Evolved

  • Heavy weapons, snipers, or grenades are perfect to eliminate the Shades operator.
  • If the player gets close to a Shade and try to push it, the operator can turn the turret and splatter the player with the gun.
  • The T-29 ASG is inefficient for killing opposing players in Multiplayer, but very helpful in eliminating vehicles in Multiplayer and Covenant infantry in Campaign.
  • Although the T-29 is indestructible, players in the Campaign can render it inoperable by flipping it upside down (through a grenade or rocket), thereby preventing Covenant troops from manning it.

Halo Wars

  • As its name suggests, the T-29 ASG is very effective against infantry. Therefore, vehicles should be used to draw its fire, and any infantry should be carefully used in a supporting role when taking one down.

Halo: Spartan Assault

  • Remember that the Shade overheats after six shots, which makes you unable to use it for at least five seconds.
  • When you hijack the Shade, you will gain invulnerability until you take control of the Shade.
  • When the Shade takes around 66% damage, the gunner will instantly died and you can still operate it.
  • You cannot score a double kill if you destroy a Shade Turret with a gunner on it. The only way to score a kill or medal is by hijacking the turret.
  • When the Shade Turret is around 33% health, the gunner will died instantly.
  • Destroying a Shade turret with grenades will earn you a Demolition medal. Destroying a Shade turret with charged Plasma Pistol will earn you Anticipation medal.
  • Shade turret when unoperable are labelled as hostile.

Halo: Spartan Strike

  • Since the overheat feature is removed, you can use Shade Turret for defensive purposes, such as in mission E-5, without worrying about overheat.
  • Unlike Spartan Assault, the Shade takes time to charge if the enemy is using it, which you can use to your advantage.
  • Like Spartan Assault, you cannot score a double kill if you destroy a Shade turret with a gunner in it. Wait for the gunner to dismount to score a double kill.
  • Destroying a Shade turret with grenades will earn you a Demolition medal. Destroying a Shade turret with charged Plasma Pistol will earn you Anticipation medal.
  • When the Shade Turret is around 33% health, the gunner will dismount from the Shade Turret, allowing you to kill it to earn more score and medals.
  • Shade turret when unoperable are labelled as hostile.
