Former Covenant territory

Should we assume that this is referring to space previously under the governance of the former Covenant and its member species with the inclusion of occupation in the name for these areas of operation? Helianthus All right. Shoot!

I've come to the same conclusion. The Joint Occupation Zones are probably similar to Cold War-era Berlin, though relations between the UNSC and the Arbiter's forces seem to be more civil than those between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. ONI, of course, is a different story. --Our vengeance is at hand. Gravemind.svg (Talk to me.) 16:36, 7 July 2014 (EDT)
My thoughts exactly. The name alone reminds me of the post-war fragmentation of Germany and Berlin into occupation zones each controlled by an Allied power. Coincidentally, however, Catalog's record of the loss of three ONI prowlers, perhaps at the hand of Shadow of Intent, may make this the perfect Cold War analog. Helianthus All right. Shoot!
My initial impression was that it referred to former UNSC territory conquered by the Covenant, and being transitioned back to UNSC control from the ex-Covenant occupiers. We know that at least some Covenant occupation has occurred - the penal Yanme'e colony on Verge, for example. The process of determining which planets are worth terraforming, dealing with new tenants, and what can be policed by the still rebuilding UNSC would be an enormous one. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 19:59, 7 July 2014 (EDT)
Referring to conquered human space as an occupation zone would be potentially harmful with the newly emboldened Insurrection. Earth would never consider them to be occupied zones anyway. They would still consider worlds in open revolt as their territory. Helianthus All right. Shoot!
We have seen a sudden upsurge in Insurrectionist activity, and there's no smoke without fire. They're unhappy enough that whatever protection the UNSC provides is offset by the cause of their anger. And sometimes, military realities overrule political niceties. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 20:40, 7 July 2014 (EDT)
Perhaps we should try to stay on topic because I'm sure to write an essay about this if we continue. :P Helianthus All right. Shoot!
If we took it to the forums, I wouldn't mind an essay! I need the practice anyway! :P -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 20:53, 7 July 2014 (EDT)

Zones?

Perhaps Envoy will clarify this, but is there a single Joint Occupation Zone or multiple Zones. All sources seem to imply that there is only a single zone, rather than multiple ones (based off of the lack of plural). --NightHammer(talk)(contribs) 21:32, 24 April 2017 (EDT)
