Storm is a specialist rank for Sangheili serving in the Covenant and its remnants, acting as shock-troopers.[1][2] Storm are usually the military backbone of the Covenant factions.[3][4]

Description

Storm is a low-ranking Sangheili rank in the Covenant, although they still outrank the Kig-Yar and Unggoy. Storm are specialized shock-troopers.[2] They serve a similar role to the Sangheili Minors. Sangheili Storm often lead lower-ranking Unggoy and Kig-Yar on the battlefield while reporting to higher-ranking Sangheili Commanders or Zealots.[3] Following the Great Schism many Storm-class Sangheili joined the Swords of Sanghelios, while others joined Jul 'Mdama's Covenant faction or became mercenaries.[5][1]

Equipment

Armor

The armor of a Sangheili Storm is simple, sleek, and efficient.[3] One aspect in which they differ largely from Minors is their combat harness. The Storm combat harness is most often issued in blue (like the Minors'), though green, red, and white harnesses are sometimes used instead. Also, whereas the Minor combat harness covers the entire body, the Storm combat harness used by Jul 'Mdama's and Vata 'Gajat's Sangheili leaves the wearer's arms exposed. The Sangheili Storm affiliated with the Swords of Sanghelios have their arms covered and the armor is colored crimson and ivory. The Storm harness was Lodam Armory's first fully in-house armor system.[6]

Weaponry

Sangheili Storm are often armed with Type-55 storm rifles and Type-51 carbines, while using Type-33 Needlers or Type-25 plasma pistols as sidearms. Occasionally they wield explosive weaponry like the Type-33 fuel rod gun or Type-50 concussion rifle. Sangheili Storm are occasionally seen using Type-1 energy swords. Sangheili Storm on Requiem sometimes used Forerunner Z-110 boltshots.[7]

Gameplay

Sangheili Storm typically carry only storm rifles and Covenant carbines and very rarely wield energy swords throughout the campaigns.[8] Their shields are weaker and they are more likely to make mistakes in combat than the higher ranking Sangheili, especially on lower difficulties.
