Sarcophagus
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
ONI Research Facility Trevelyan[1] or the Sharpened Shield as the Forerunners referred to it,[2] is a micro Dyson sphere within the artificial planet Onyx.
Structure
It resides in a slipspace bubble of compressed dimensionality, having a diameter of only 23 centimeters[3] in normal space. However, the space inside the slipspace rift is approximately two astronomical units (300 million kilometers) in diameter and weighs approximately 1.37 solar masses. The Dyson sphere's default environmental conditions are suitable for Earth-based life, but the climate settings could be adjusted for other species' requirements. The only means of access to the Sharpened Shield is a small portal, which is located inside the core room antechamber in the core of the artificial planet.
History
The Sharpened Shield was constructed by the Forerunners during the Forerunner-Flood War as a so called bomb shelter for when the Halo Array fired.
Near the end of the Battle of Onyx on November 3, 2552, Covenant Fleet Master Voro Nar 'Mantakree led his forces in an attempt to access the Sharpened Shield. However, SPARTAN Kurt-051 detonated a pair of FENRIS nuclear warheads within the core room antechamber after his comrades had passed through the portal, denying the Covenant access. The human survivors, including SPARTAN-II Blue Team, several SPARTAN-IIIs, Dr. Catherine Halsey, and Senior Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez, were then seemingly trapped within the shield world. Shortly thereafter, the installation's Sentinels destroyed the artificial surface of Onyx.[4]
Halsey and the surviving SPARTANs were eventually rescued from the Sharpened Shield, but she was immediately arrested by Captain Serin Osman for "commiting acts likely to aid the enemy". She hijacked a ship, kidnapped a Spartan, and lied to Lord Hood to have him sent more Spartans to Onyx - all with the sole intention of hiding in the Shield World until the war was over. Admiral Margaret Parangosky subsequently detained Dr. Halsey on the newly-established Ivanoff Station.[5]
