The Prototype BR-55 Battle Rifle (likely referred to with an X for experimental XBR-55, BRX-55, etc.) is “a prototype long barreled weapon with an optical scope.”[1] The weapon fires 9.5MMx40 FMJ SAP ammunition[2] from a 60 round magazine [3] Issued by Lieutenant Commander Jilan al-Cygni for use during the Harvest event by Staff Sergeants Avery J. Johnson and Nolan Byrne as well as their militia squads' marksmen, Critchley and Jenkins during the year 2525.
Trivia
- This was the first weapon to be used against the Covenant and caused the first death of the aliens by the Humans.
- Even though the Prototype BR55's magazine capacity is stated to be 60 rounds, on the cover of Halo: Contact Harvest, the Battle Rifle Avery Johnson is holding has 36 rounds, although it is possible he hasn't reloaded.
- The prototype resembles the BR55HB SR much more than the BR55 variation.
- It has a range of at least 950 meters.
