Carved Letters can be seen in the Halo 3 mission Sierra 117.

Sprinkled throughout the dense foliage of Sierra 117 are carved hearts with initials and dates. Since the setting of the mission was Africa, some people think the second carving was made in the year 1995, and that this was probably a young couple sitting in the trees writing these things, although other people think that it could be any other year or even names of UNSC members. This can be seen throughout all difficulties and require normal gameplay. Players may also view these Easter eggs via Theater after completing the mission.
