English

English is a West Germanic language originating in England, and the first language for most people in Australia, Canada, the Commonwealth Caribbean, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States of America (also commonly known as the Anglosphere). It has grown to prominence as the dominant language of the UNSC, and is the primary language of every known UNSC colony and organization, especially in the UNSC Marine Corps and UNSC Navy.

Several other languages are used throughout the UNSC, mostly with secondary roles in society, as English is always found in conjuncture with them. Such languages include Swahili and Spanish.

Covenant language translation software intercepted human COM transmissions after The Battle of Harvest, and thus the Covenant learned English quickly. Some members of the Covenant are able to speak fluent English, as apparent by their apparent abilities to converse with Humans. However, this point has never been known until the Great Schism, as Covenant forces had little interest in speaking to humans beforehand. Such Covenant include several Elites, such as the current Arbiter.
