M99 Stanchion

Operational Use
It was used by Corporal Avery J. Johnson during Operation: KALEIDOSCOPE (a mission where he used an M99 SASR to assassinate Jerald Mulkey Ander, a member of the Secessionist Union).
Caliber
The caliber for the M99 SASR is actually quite small, being only 5.4mm, or .21 caliber. The M99 may very well be less potent that the much larger 14.5mm cartridges utilized in most UNSC Sniper Rifles, such as the SRS99 Series. However the small caliber may be nullified by an extremely high muzzle velocity, as evidenced by the astoundingly (by today's standards) long 4.5km killing range. The longest range confirmed rifle kill to date was at 2km. A possible explanation for this high velocity is that the Stanchion is in fact a coilgun as opposed to using standard chemical propellants. This is supported by the small generator seen plugged into the weapon.
