The credit, abbreviated as "cR", is the standard currency of the UNSC. It is the only currency used by the UNSC that has yet been mentioned, and it is unclear if it is based off of any older money systems. As of 2552, cR is still in use.

Credit can be spent in the form of "credit chips", which seems to be the modern equivalent of the credit card.[1]

Trivia

  • UNSC citizens sometimes casually refer to credits as credaroos, analogous to the way Americans refer to dollars as "bucks".[7]
  • "Credaroo" could possibly be a reference to how common australian accents seem to be in Halo.
  • There is no known Covenant monetary unit that can be compared to cR and the UNSC has no idea how much money their weapons would cost to replace.[8]
  • In the trailer of Halo 3: ODST, there are monitors that are intended to announce information to citizens. One of the messages says: "Your tax dollars at work." but it is likely a cliche left over from the 21st century.
  • According to The Fall of Reach, there are no coins or papers used in the credit system.[9] But from the Audio Logs in Halo 3: ODST, a old woman is heard breaking an ATM with money in a tangible form of coins and presumably paper coming out. This could imply that cR is a military only currency whereas civilians use an alternative, or it could indicate a hard-currency equivalent to the credit. It is also possible that these are some sort of tokens or parking-coins.
  • The cR will be used by the player for the first time in Halo: Reach in order for players to buy Armor Permutations for their Spartan.[10]
