"This is SPARTAN Group Omega. If they want war, we'll give 'em war!"
— A member of SPARTAN Group Omega during the Second Battle of Harvest.

SPARTAN Group Omega is a UNSC Naval Special Warfare unit assigned to the modified-colony ship, UNSC Spirit of Fire [1].

Background

SPARTAN Group Omega seems to be equipped with the MJOLNIR Mk IV Battle Armor with an external plate on the right shoulder.

SPARTAN Group Omega is most likely to contain anywhere from 5-15 SPARTAN-IIs of all expertise, making it a squad-sized Special Operations unit.

In Halo Wars, Spartan Group Omega have personal energy shields, even though they have MJOLNIR Mk IV armor, which lacks shielding. The shields recharge after a short time and make the classic depletion and recharge sounds from the original trilogy. The Spartans must be managed carefully lest they be wiped out. They are armed with SMGs, which can be upgraded to chainguns and later Spartan Lasers [2]. The Spartans are capable of hijacking and piloting enemy vehicles, similar to John in the original trilogy, but at a much faster rate.

Quotes

  • "War is hell, and I'm the devil!"
  • "For Samuel!"

Trivia

  • The name of the team is Spartan "GROUP" Omega instead of Team Omega. That signifies that Spartan Group Omega is larger than the Spartan teams referenced throughout the series, as they are usually designated by a simple color. In Halo Wars' multiplayer and skirmish modes, the player may only deploy up to three Spartans at one time.
  • The fact that the Spartans in Group Omega are able to wield Spartan Lasers is controversial since the weapons were first encountered in Halo 3, which occurs in late 2552 and early 2553, yet Halo Wars takes place in 2531. However, no official source has ever given the date of the Spartan Laser's earliest deployment.
  • The battle cry "For Samuel!" refers to Samuel-034, the first Spartan to die in combat with the Covenant.
