The Ukala Workshop Spike Revolver, also known as the Mangler, is a sidearm developed by Ukala Workshop and manufactured by Saizos Armory. It is the companion weapon to the Ukala Workshop Mauler.[1]
Overview
Design details
- "Spike revolver ready."
- — A Superintendent-class artificial intelligence on the Mangler in a War Games simulation.[4]
The mangler is a highly powerful handgun that fires spike projectiles with close-range precision and immense stopping power.[1] It heavily resembles a human revolver, with an eight round swing-out cylinder reloaded using a speedloader-like device. It fires large spike rounds likely using an explosive charge or powder encased in red metallic cartridges. The actual projectiles are perfectly cylindrical before firing, and appear to warp somewhat after firing, indicating they may not be completely solid. The mangler also has a pair of tandem bayonets arranged in a tusk-like formation under the barrel for melee attacks.[4]
Usage
For centuries prior to the Jiralhanae's alliance with the Covenant, the mangler was employed by Jiralhanae warriors and hunting packs. After the species' absorption into the Covenant, the Jiralhanae within the Covenant deferred to the use of directed-energy weapon alongside the rest of the hegemony, leading to a decline in the use of the mangler. Following the Great Schism and the Human-Covenant War, both of which led to the dissolution of the Covenant, the mangler returned to widespread circulation, particularly among Jiralhanae raiding packs and those in service with the Banished.[1]
Variants
While there is a number of variants of manglers employed by the Banished,[1] only one variant has been observed so far:
- Riven Mangler: A white painted Mangler that fires a tight spread of three projectiles per single bullet, giving it significantly increased damage, in exchange for a lower rate of fire and an even more strict falloff range. One such variant was carried by Balkarus during the Battle for Zeta Halo.[4]
In-game information
“ | Powerful semi-automatic Brute revolver that fires spikes at medium range.[5] | ” |
The Mangler has an ammo capacity of 8 rounds.[4] In multiplayer, the Mangler will drop a Spartan's shields in 2 shots and kill an unshielded Spartan in 1 headshot or 2 body shots. In the campaign, the Mangler is wielded by Jiralhanae, Kig-Yar Skirmishers, and Kig-Yar Raiders.
