Biography

Human-Covenant War

Alpha-Nine member Edward Buck comes across dead Jiralhanae and Sangheili Minors in New Mombasa Sector 6. From Halo 3: ODST campaign level Tayari Plaza.
Edward Buck stumbles upon the bodies of 'Ahtulai and his brethren.[1]

In late 2552, Vero had advanced into the Covenant Fleet Security as a Stealth operative,[Note 1] and was considered a renowned blademaster - having mastered the martial form of pzish'zawk - the dual wielding of energy swords.[2]

In October of that year, Vero was assigned to the Fleet of Sacred Consecration during their attack on a world the Prophet of Regret believed may hold a portal to the Ark. Unbenownkst to the Covenant force, the world in question was not merely a colony world of humanity but their most heavily-defended homeworld, Earth. The destruction of the carrier Day of Jubilation early in the battle caused Solemn Penance shipmaster Rhul 'Salmutee to begin deploying combat units in key strategic areas on the ground. Vero 'Ahtulai was among the forces deployed into the city of New Mombasa, and was present in New Mombasa Sector 6 when Solemn Penance made an emergency jump into slipstream space to escape encroaching United Nations Space Command forces.[2]

In the wake of the disaster, 'Ahtulai worked to rally his fellow Sangheili forces, now having been abandoned on an enemy world with no reinforcements. He was able to rally thirteen fellow Sangheili to his cause when secret orders from the Prophet of Truth were broadcast to the forces on Earth ordering the local Jiralhanae to begin usurping the Sangheili. 'Ahtulai was set upon by the Jiralhanae Chieftain Bracktanus, who sought to eliminate the blademaster first to disrupt the morale of the other Sangheili in the area. Bracktanus was able to kill Vero by crushing his chest with the reverse blade of his gravity hammer, throwing 'Ahtulai's body to its final resting place.[2]

The bodies of 'Ahtulai and his fellows would only minutes later be stumbled upon by Edward Buck, who remained totally unaware of the Sangheili-Jiralhanae conflict.[1] However, the nature of the event was known to the Office of Naval Intelligence, who were aware of Bracktanus thanks to the observations of a sniper, C. Errera, during the Fall of Reach. Ultimately, these tensions would only days later explode into a fully-fledged civil war.[2]

Equipment

'Ahtulai donned a grey combat harness, as befitting of his position as a Stealth operative.[Note 1] He was a master of the martial artform of pzish'zawk, and thus wielded dual energy swords.[2][3]
