Stephens was a UNSC Marine stationed aboard UNSC Spirit of Fire. After the Battle of Arcadia, Stephens's squad participated in a game of basketball with Spartan Red Team; however, one of his squad members and Douglas-042 got into a fight, resulting in six of the Marine squad suffering injuries, including Stephens who suffered a severe leg injury.[1]
