Plasma bombardment mortar
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
- "Corvette over the starport pounded the hell out of the place."
- — Sergeant Marcus Stacker, after a corvette bombarded the New Alexandria Starport[1]
The plasma bombardment mortar is a ship-to-surface plasma weapon system designed by the Covenant.[2] These plasma mortars mark and bombard surface targets, such as infrastructure and infantry.[3]
The Covenant maintained several plasma mortar design patterns. The CPV-class heavy destroyer is fitted with forty Carnax Et-pattern plasma bombardment mortars. Within the Covenant fleet, the gunners aboard these destroyers were trained to operate the mortars by obeying their orders without question or mercy, even if those orders resulted in the incidental loss of faithful Covenant warriors in the target area.[2] The ORS-class heavy cruiser was armed with sixteen Fet-pattern plasma mortars.[4] The SDV-class heavy corvette was armed with sixteen plasma bombardment mortars of the Carnax Nu pattern.[3][5]
