Talk:Sangheili (language)
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Several information in the article has been proven wrong at E3 regarding the triangular characters. I will prepare a list of 100 sigils and upload them once the list is ready. We should also replace the audio file with something from Halo 4 since the Bungie stuff is not in any way connected to 343i's inception of the language and the canonicity of Bungie's Sangheili language deleted content is debatable. We could replace it with Jul's speech from Spartan Ops or the chatter between the 2 Sangheili in SpOps episode 6. The cipher is also invalid since Halo 4 and it needs to be replaced with the full list of sigils.--The Master Builder (talk) 08:27, 20 June 2015 (EDT)
There is also no source in GoO that their language is based on the Forerunner one. There is however evidence to the contrary, in HitD the Sangheili can barely understand forerunner scripture and it also makes no sense for an advanced dialect of Sangheili to be based on a forerunner language as that would not make it an advanced dialect of Sangheili.--The Master Builder (talk) 10:49, 2 August 2015 (EDT)
- Think of it this way. The Anglo-Saxons spoke Old English, which is unintelligible to modern English speakers. Old English was in term descended from the Germanic languages their ancestors spoke on the continent, which was descended from Proto-Indo-European which was the forefather of Greek, Latin, Germanic, Celtic, Arabic and Hindi. This is over a few thousand years. It's not inconceivable that a language descended distantly from one spoken a hundred thousand years ago would be unintelligible to the original and vice versa.
