Halo: Fractures: Extraordinary Tales from the Halo Canon is an upcoming collection of short stories set for release on September 20, 2016, serving as the spiritual sequel to Halo: Evolutions. The stories within the anthology will range from the Forerunner era, to the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War, to the events of Halo 5: Guardians. Joseph Staten's Halo: Shadow of Intent and Frank O'Connor's Halo: Saint's Testimony will also be included in Fractures.[1] A preview for one of the stories in Fractures, Lessons Learned, was included with the first Halo Legendary Crate.[3]

Promises to Keep

This story takes place at the close of recorded Forerunner history, during the events that followed the destruction of the Forerunner capital world by the rogue artificial intelligence Mendicant Bias Halo: Cryptum and the subsequent activation of the Halo Array to end the centuries-long war with the extragalactic parasite known as the Flood Halo: Silentium. It was written by Christie Golden.
Shadow of Intent

Focuses on a conflict between Tem'Bhetek, a vengeful San'Shyuum Prelate, and Shipmaster Rtas 'Vadum several months after the Covenant War. It was written by Joseph Staten and was previously released as a standalone work.
The Ballad of Hamish Beamish

A poem detailing the tragic life of Corbulo Academy janitor Hamish Beamish. It was written by Frank O'Connor, who portrayed Beamish in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and his other appearances.
Defender of the Storm

This story takes place near the end of the Forerunners’ three-hundred-year war with the Flood, a little more than 100,000 years BCE Halo: Cryptum, Halo: Silentium. It was written by John Jackson Miller.
A Necessary Truth

This story takes place three months after the United Nations Space Command’s extraction of the 717th research battalion by the elite Spartan Blue Team from the volatile and besieged colony of Gao Halo: Last Light. It was written by Troy Denning.
Into the Fire

This story takes place four years after the end of the Covenant’s brutal and costly rampage across human-occupied space (Halo 3 era) and Kilo-Five’s brief mission on Venezia, culminating in the destruction of the highly-sought-after Covenant battle cruiser Pious Inquisitor Halo: Mortal Dictata. It was written by Kelly Gay.
Saint's Testimony

Explores the world of smart AIs through the eyes of Iona as she attempts to prevent her own decommissioning. Previously published as an individual novella, it was written by Frank O'Connor.
Rossbach's World

This story takes place in October 2558, during the resurrection of ominous and powerful Forerunner Guardian constructs across several populated worlds Halo 5: Guardians. It was written by Brian Reed.
Oasis

This story takes place in March 2556, three years after the end of the Covenant War (Halo 3 era) and one year after FAR STORM, a joint military operation between humans and their former Sangheili enemies in order to secure the remote and mysterious Forerunner installation known as the Ark Halo: Hunters in the Dark.
