One of the Spartan-II super soldiers. Li is one of the least known named Spartans thus far. He is never even mentioned until after The Battle of Reach. He was one of the zero-gravity combat specialists in the Spartan group. He had trained extensively with microgravity equipment and martial arts at the UNSC's extreme-conditions facility on Chiron over Mars.[1]
Biography
He was abducted at age six in 2517, after he was singled out as intellectually and genetically superior by Dr. Catherine Halsey. He trained on the surface of Reach along with the rest of the Spartans, by Deja and Chief Petty Officer Mendez.
In 2552 he was briefly aboard the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, when he was assigned to Fredric-104's team by John-117. As he and his team descended to the surface of Reach to defend the generators to the orbital MAC guns, their Pelican dropship, Bravo 001, was shot down by the Covenant. Li then regrouped with the rest of the Spartans, and he was assigned to "Team Gamma" by Frederic, along with Anton-044 and Grace-093. Their objective was to rescue Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb.[2] The group was successful in rescuing Whitcomb, but Fredric-104 ordered them to stay in hiding because the Spartan's fall back spot was hot with Covenant activity.[3]
Anton, Grace, Li and Whitcomb were forced to retreat to Camp Independence for three weeks, where they broadcasted Oly Oly Oxen Free on the UNSC E-Band, until the signal was picked up by Cortana and John aboard the captured Ascendant Justice.[4] John then took a team down on a Spirit and rescued Li, Grace, Anton, and Whitcomb. [5]
The group then followed the Covenant to the subterranean remains of CASTLE Base.[6] Admiral Whitcomb ordered Li to stay on the dropship and protect Warrant Officer Polaski while the rest of the group saved Fredric-104's team.[7] All of them returned to the Ascendant Justice/Gettysburg and initiated a Slipspace jump.
However, the Forerunner Crystal artifact altered Slipspace, creating an anomalous slipspace bubble in which the Ascendant Justice became trapped.[8] Surviving Elite crew members of the ship sabotaged the main power conduit of the ship, forcing Li, John, Fredric, Anton, Grace and William-043 to go out onto the surface of the ship and repair the conduit.[9]
They succeeded in fixing the conduit, but a renegade plasma bolt struck the ship, destroying the dropship. Li, Anton, and Polaski were all killed in this event.[10]
