The UNSC Aegis Fate, hull classification symbol FFG-307, is a Charon-class light frigate in the UNSC Navy.[2]
Operational history
Fall of Reach
- Main article: Fall of Reach
Aegis Fate was present during the Fall of Reach in the summer of 2552 as part of the Epsilon Eridani Fleet. It was offered as a support element for Dragon X-ray, though the operator refused, fearing that its firepower could cause collateral damage. It was one of the few warships to escape the planet as the Covenant glassed it from orbit.[3][4]
Battle of Earth
- Main article: Battle of Earth
After fleeing Reach, the Aegis Fate fought alongside the UNSC Home Fleet during the Covenant invasion of Earth in October 2552. By the time SPARTAN John-117 returned from Installation 05 the following month, it was one of the few ships left in the battered fleet.
The Aegis Fate later took part in the attempt to stop the Prophet of Truth from activating the portal to Installation 00 during the Battle of Voi.[citation needed] However, the attack was unsuccessful. After much deliberation, the Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood and Shipmaster Rtas 'Vadum of the Sangheili Fleet of Retribution decided to pursue Truth's fleet through the portal.[5]
Battle of Installation 00
- Main article: Battle of Installation 00
After arriving at Installation 00 along with the Template:UNSCship and the Fleet of Retribution, Aegis Fate was stationed over an abandoned Jiralhanae encampment. It deployed at least one Albatross to the service, though it crashed by unknown means.[6] It is unknown whether the vessel returned to UNSC-controlled space, though it is possible that at least some of its crew and complement were evacuated.[7]
Trivia
- The Aegis Fate is prominently featured in the northeastern[8] patch of unclouded sky on the Halo 3 multiplayer map Sandtrap.
- Aegis was name of the goddess Athena's armor in Greek mythology. It was originally Zeus's, which he made from the hide of a goat who raised him. The word Aegis is often used in relevance to protection, so "Aegis Fate" could mean "Protective Fate," or "Doomed to Protect."[citation needed]
- Prior to Halo 3's release, the Aegis Fate was thought to be a UNSC battlecruiser, as descriptions found in the Halo 3 Beta described it as such.[9]
