New Phoenix
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Template:City New Phoenix is a metropolitan area of Arizona, a state in the United Republic of North America on Earth.
History
Pheonix
The original Pheonix was first recognised in 1865, eventually becoming the capital of the American state of Arizona. By the 26th Century, the city of New Pheonix was founded on the opposite side of the state, supposedly replacing the original Pheonix.
Battle of Earth
- Main article: Battle of Earth (2557)
During his swift attack on Earth in July 2557, the Didact was able to position his flagship, Mantle's Approach, in a high geosynchronous orbit above the city. Despite resistance from the UNSC Home Fleet, he activated the Composer, converting New Phoenix's population into "digital intelligences" and disintegrating their bodies. Spartan John-117 soon destroyed the Composer, however, some of the resulting digital intelligences were sent to Requiem via the Composer's slipspace portal.[1]
Due to the nature of the Composer, the city's infrastructure remained completely intact.[2] New Phoenix was quarantined after the holocaust and remained off-limits for at least six months. John Sullivan, an Office of Naval Intelligence public relations officer, released a statement that the attack was not of Covenant origin.[3]
Trivia
- New Phoenix is the first North American city to be visually depicted in the story of a Halo game and is the fifth overall of Earth, after the Kenyan cities of New Mombasa and Voi, the Ecuadorian city of Quito, and the Australian city of Sydney.
- Gabriel Thorne had family and friends that were killed in New Phoenix. This was the reason he enlisted in the SPARTAN-IV Program.[4]
