My interpretations of Primordium:
- Precursors are the final form of the Flood -- a mature Gravemind is "reborn" as a child, which assimilates all the knowledge the Gravemind amassed and can actually act on it in order to subjugate the physical world.
- The Flood seeks to attain all knowledge by creating new, unique species, allowing them to grow and interact with the world around them, then "reaping" them when they are mature.
- The Mantle is not only to "protect and preserve life", but to make sure that, no matter what, life is never extinguished. The Flood must have livestock to cull. Humans were chosen because they demonstrated that they were willing to do anything to make sure that they lived on. Forerunners, on the other hand, were willing to sacrifice "all" life in order to protect it from the Flood, and probably attempted this during the first war as well (maybe the Halos have been built before?)
- Poss. the Flood were not always infectious (at least, not always aggressively infectious to other sentient species), and decided to do so in response to the suicidal and destructive actions of other sentient races, such as wars etc.
- The Flood are basically the Reapers from Mass Effect.
- The "horrifying truth" that caused the researchers at Charum Hakkor to commit suicide was not just that they were created by the Flood as livestock, but possibly that all sentient life is Flood? Precursors have neural poss. organic creations, Humans and Forerunner could possibly be merely emanations of the Flood.
- If the claim is to be believed about there being no cure, then the Flood has already demonstrated with humans that it will go through the farce of infection forms failing in order to encourage specific beliefs in its livestock. Perhaps Infection Forms themselves are a farce, and the Flood could simply activate infection throughout all of its creations at any time of its choosing?
Basically, the Flood is God, except not totally omnipotent and omniscient. Yet.{{SUBST:KrytenKoroSig}} 03:01, 11 January 2012 (EST)
