Okay, sources have been added to the Jackal and Drone Lance sections (Halo: CE level Silent Cartographer and Halo 2 level Outskirts, respectively), but when does it ever refer to those groups as a Lance? AlphaPrime 03:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

More observation than anything else. In those levels, small groups of the enemy can be seen, as well as their behavior and ranks, commanders etc. --ED(talk)(shockfront) 19:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry ED, I'm with AlphaPrime here. We could pick any random name for this formation, but it doesn't make it true. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 07:42, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

The Arbiter Level, Anybody?

Phantom Pilot (O.S.): "Arbiter, clear the hangar and open this door, so I may drop the second Lance!" ~Transcript, Part 2, Whisper of the Storm, The Arbiter (Level)

As this apparently refers to reinforcements, it makes sense to conclude that a Lance consists of Elites and Grunts. What is not known is the numbers of either race, or ratio of Elites to Grunts, especially since it was a Spec-Ops mission, there are bound to be more Elites than normal. Also, as this is the only time I personally have heard the term in-game, it is possible that "Lance" is in fact a Spec-Ops term, perhaps even slang (however unlikely in the ultra-formal Covenant society). To me, there is no debate as to the term's existence and what it generally means, but certainly the specifics may need to be beaten out.

Lance

Wait, should'nt we add to the Yamne'e lance section that in Halo 3 ODST There are higher ranking Yamne'e with red or gold armor plating or exoskeleton and they carry Jiralhanae Plasma Rifles.

What's the point?

Am I the only one who has noticed that, according to this article, a lance is simply a file plus an Elite or Brute? This Elite/Brute has one file under his control, nothing else. So whats the point of having a file and a lance in they're basically the same thing? The only difference seems to be that the lance is the file plus the leader. So, basically, the leader of the file is nothing more than second in command of the lance. Is this information confirmed by anything other than a player's interpretation of what he/she sees the Covenant doing? The lack of sense in this makes me suspicious. I would think that a lance would contain two or three files, not just one. It should at least have more than just a single file and a leader. Iceman117 02:37, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

The Picture

Just curios, what's with the main picture. As far as I can tell, it pretty much contradicts everything that the article says, not to mention is from Halo 3 and has brutes in it. I could be wrong, but by Halo 3 didn't they use the pack-system? --Raiderdline61 "7777777" 15:50, 30 June 2011 (EDT)
