Fragmentation is a multiplayer map in Halo Infinite.[1]

Universe and lore

The map is set within one of the many canyons on the surface of Installation 07. Set into the side of a high cliff, this canyon hosts two beacon towers, and various Forerunner nodes and beacons.[1][4] Following the ring's fragmentation during the Battle for Zeta Halo, the 511th Infantry Division from the UNSC Infinity have established a base of operations in the canyon, and set up equipment to survey the fragment of the ring. While fighting off Sentinel patrols and evading the increasingly frequent scouting runs of Banshee talons, the survivors attempted to make contact with other UNSC forces that might be within comms range.[5]

Overview

Layout

Fragmentation is a large, near-symmetrical map intended for Big Team Battle. The general layout could be broadly described as 8-shaped, with infantry paths encircling the vehicle routes which travel along the edge of the map. The beacon towers serve as the respective bases, with one base situated near a cliff edge while the other base is situated inside a canyon. Each base has an rock archway at its front and a sloped path across the roadway and along the edge of the map. These two paths lead towards a courtyard which hosts a vault. Internally referred to as the "loot cave", the vaults requires a player to hack open a door with their personal AI; inside are various equipment and weapons.[6] Beyond the courtyard, the path leads to the other base. These two lanes at the center of the map are distinguished by the terrain; the cliff base leads to a path with numerous hexagonal Forerunner columns, whereas the canyon base leads to a path with natural rocks. Players can cut through the center of the map through a Forerunner corridor.
