A Bloodblade[Note 1] is the name provided to red-colored fireblades used by the Covenant and its remnants.[6][7]

Overview

Design details

Bloodblades are not exclusive to a specific pattern of fireblade, as they have been seen as Meluth'qelos-pattern fireblades,[8] Pelosus-pattern fireblades,[9][10] and two unidentified patterns.[11][12]

Usage

Bloodblades were used by some Special Operations Sangheili,[3][13] such as the Silent Shadow.[14][6] One of their known uses was at the Battle of Algolis, during the Human-Covenant War, in the attempted execution of Atriox.[10] They were also seen in the defense of a Covenant moon base.[13] Bloodblades were also in use with the Banished, with one being in the possession of Jega 'Rdomnai as his personal energy sword during the Battle for Zeta Halo in 2560.[8] After he was defeated by John-117, the Spartan kept 'Rdomnai's personal Bloodblade as a memento.[15][16]

They were also sometimes used in the UNSC's War Games simulation, for example in Infection sessions.[9][17]

In-game information

Halo 3

"Hidden. Active. Deadly. The Silent Shadow have been. The Silent Shadow remain."
— In-game description[11]

The Bloodblade is available in Halo 3 in Halo: The Master Chief Collection as a skin for the energy sword.

Halo 2: Anniversary

The Bloodblade is exclusively used by zombies in Halo 2: Anniversary's Infection mode.

Halo Infinite

"Once the personal Energy Sword of Jega 'Rdomnai—now a hard-won memento of his defeat."
— In-game description[16]

The Elite Bloodblade is a special weapon in the campaign of Halo Infinite. It can be acquired and wielded after the player has defeated Jega 'Rdomnai in House of Reckoning. The difference with the standard energy sword is mostly in appearance; the blade features red coloration, and enemies slain by the Bloodblade disintegrate like they would if killed by a Forerunner weapon, albeit the visual effects carrying a red than orange coloration. It can be acquired at any Forward Operating Base following the completion of the level.

Notes

  1. ^ Sangheili blood is purple, so "bloodblade" may be a human-given name or named for the blood of humans (or Jiralhanae or San'Shyuum) killed by bearers of the swords.
