Biography

Battle of Ealen IV

Main article: Battle of Ealen IV

Dunn was assigned to Fireteam Bailey, along with Hong, Jones, and Paul DeMarco. In March of 2558, they and Fireteam Jackknife were assigned to provide security for Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood and Kaidon Thel 'Vadam on a diplomatic mission to Ealen IV. While Commander Sarah Palmer and Fireteam Jackknife accompanied the delegates, Dunn and the rest of Bailey stayed back to act as overwatch. As Hood and 'Vadam were negotiating with the Jiralhanae Chieftain Lydus, Covenant mercenaries led by Shipmaster Vata 'Gajat broke into the chamber and attacked the delegates. Despite facing heavy resistance from Covenant forces, Fireteam Bailey managed to clear a path for the delegates and escort them to a nearby parts depot.[2]

As the party attempted to escape the storage depot, DeMarco, Dunn and the rest of Bailey were ordered to secure the area and escort the delegation to an old fortified redoubt. Soon after their escape, they were intercepted by a Covenant Lich. After a brief skirmish with the Covenant leading to the destruction of the Lich, Fireteam Bailey stayed with the delegation as Fireteam Jackknife and the delegation's bodyguards left to ensure that the redoubt was safe to use as shelter.[3]

At the battle's climax, Fireteam Bailey was forced to stay behind in order to secure the lives of Lord Terrence Hood, Arbiter Thel 'Vadam, and Chieftain Lydus. The Spartans manually operated Type-38 Tyrants to cover the ambassadors' escape.[4] Although the Covenant launched an attack on their position, the Spartans succeeded in saving the delegation. Dunn, Hong and Jones survived the assault but lost their comrade, Paul DeMarco, when the Covenant destroyed the cannon he was manning.[1]

Production notes

Spartans Dunn and Jones are possibly an homage to the Bungie employees David Dunn and Jason Jones.
