Loathsome Thing
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
- "Stained in the ichor of uncountable foul parasites slain in a hundred thousand wretched hives. Improved Scattershot with increased damage, faster rate of fire, and extended magazine."
- — In-game description[1]
The Loathsome Thing is a special Z-180 Close Combat Rifle/Asymmetric Engagement Mitigator.[2][3]
Overview
Design details
The Loathsome Thing is a named variant of the Z-180 CCR/AEM, with upgrades including a 10-round magazine, a faster rate of fire, faster reloading speed between projectiles, and a slightly higher damage output. Reusing the standard Scattershot's model, the Loathsome Thing is decorated with additional orange stripes covering the weapon, particularly around the front barrel area and the rest of the weapon's main body.[3]
Service history
First introduced in the Forerunner-Flood war, the Loathsome Thing is known to have been drenched in the ichor of an uncountable number of Flood across hundred thousand different hives.[1]
In October 2558, two copies of the weapon were left in an area on Kamchatka that Fireteam Osiris passed through on their mission to recover Catherine Halsey from Jul 'Mdama and his Covenant forces.[4] The weapon was later integrated into War Games simulations for use by Spartan-IVs aboard the UNSC Infinity.[3]
Gameplay
Halo 5: Guardians
The Loathsome Thing is a special weapon that can be found in the campaign mission Osiris.
The Loathsome Thing appears as an Ultra Rare Level 4 REQ that grants 150 REQ Points when sold. It has a faster rate of fire and slightly higher damage output compared to the normal Scattershot, as well as a 10-round magazine. These improvements make the Loathsome Thing a powerful weapon against multiple enemies up close, as it gives the enemies less time to react, although its overall range is unchanged from the normal Scattershot, making it unadvisable in medium-long-range combat.
In Warzone Firefight, Knight Excavators, Legendary Knight Battlewagon bosses that appear on the map Temple, use the Loathsome Thing when confronted in close quarters.
