Mount Erebus
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Mount Erebus (pronounced ĕr'ə-bəs) is a volcano located on Ross Island, Antarctica on Earth. The second-highest volcano in Antarctica, its height is around 12,500 feet. It is the most active volcano in Antarctica and the southernmost active volcano on Earth as of the early 21st century. The summit contains a persistent convecting phonolitic lava lake, one of a very few long-lived lava lakes in the world. Characteristic eruptive activity consists of Strombolian eruptions from the lava lake or from one of several subsidiary vents, all lying within the volcano's inner crater.
Ross Island is formed by three volcanoes in the Ross Sea by Antarctica, off of the coast of Victoria Land in McMurdo Sound.[1] Historically, Ross Island has been a part of the Sub-Antarctic Islands and overseen by New Zealand.
Human-Covenant War
Mount Erebus was the site of a battle between UNSC and Covenant forces during the Battle of Earth. Blue Team, comprised of Spartans Fred-104, Linda-058 and Will-043, stopped a Covenant excavation operation with the detonation of a HAVOK nuclear weapon.[2]
