History

The Two Giants location on Requiem

In early 2558, the area known as Two Giants was behind Covenant enemy lines. Mountain Squad, a UNSC Marine Corps squadron crashed their Pelican behind enemy lines. In response Commander Sarah Palmer deployed Fireteam Crimson to the area, where they combated a steady battlegroup of some Covenant and Promethean forces. Though they rescued Mountain Squad, Crimson was sent to investigate one of the Beam emitters and activate it so Dr.Catherine Halsey could analyze it. The emitter sent out a pulse and triggered a Covenant response. [1] A CRS-class light cruiser was attracted and sent in waves of Phantoms to Crimson's position. Crimson was beating them off, but needed equipment help, prompting Robert Dalton to drop in Mantis mech suits for the team. The Spartans utilized them and defeated the Covenant battlegroup, while Cyrus Shaw's Charon-class light frigate destroyed the battle cruiser. Crimson then left the location. [1] However the area was re-taken by Jul 'Mdama, and Crimson located him at Two Giants. Defeating minimal Covenant forces, Crimson found that 'Mdama had escaped using Slipspace translocation. Crimson was able to open a portal of their own, and left Two Giants, getting teleported to the Fortress. [2]

Trivia

  • Two Giants is also the location of the Multiplayer map, Ragnarok.
  • Considering that the Two Giants area and thereby Ragnarok are solidified canon on Requiem through Spartan Ops, it makes them a canon location just as the Valhalla map was from Halo 3. As Ragnarok is a re-make of Valhalla, it shows that there is in the Halo Universe an eerie coincidence between Mountain Squad's crashing of their Pelican, and the crashing of Victor 398, despite the events happening during the Requiem campaign and the Battle of Installation 00. Quite possibly this Forerunner canyon structure appears often on Forerunner installations due to the massive areas the Forerunners terraformed. However, the coincidence of the two events still remains.
