The article says that Johnson was a "platoon leader," but platoon leaders are always officers, usually a 2nd Lt. Is it supposed to say "platoon sergeant?" That would make more since as most Marine Corps platoon sgts are Staff Sergeants. [[User talk:Iceman117|Iceman117]] 04:18, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

Whats a Sergeant First Class, ???????? ---Climax Viod 17:46, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Sergeant First Class is a United States Army Rank. You can get more information at Wikipedia - Wikipedia:Sergeant First Class. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 16:14, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

AHA!

The UNSC Ranks ARE NOT THE SAME as the USMC. As noted in Contact Harvest, a Staff Sergeant is symbolized by 4 gold chevrons, not 3 chevrons and a rocker. -- AJFile:ArmyJROTC.jpg 02:18, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

The insignia not being the same does not mean the ranks are not the same. -- Manticore Manticore is a Halopedia administrator. Talk | Contributions 05:52, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
That is what I meant. The symbols of the ranks are different. -- AJFile:ArmyJROTC.jpg 18:32, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
I would be cautious of detailing Contact Harvest to death, as Joe Staten doesn't appear to have near as much understanding of military as Eric Nylund. He may simply have meant it to describe the same rank (since there are four gold bands on the staff sergeant rank), but not what to call the rocker, so he just assumed it is called a chevron. Kind of like his mix up with 9/29/1...Individual combat battalions are almost never directly subordinate to division command modules, and it doesnt make sense, but he doesn't seem to have done his research on the idea of Regiments. --EDFile:ArmyROTC.gif 20:14, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that too. Thanx ED! -- AJFile:ArmyJROTC.jpg 22:39, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Please cite the page number so it can be verified, and use .<ref> not . <ref>, there should be no space. -- Manticore Manticore is a Halopedia administrator. Talk | Contributions 01:42, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Cited, page 47 of Contact Harvest. Wouldn't it look similar to the Halo 3 Multiplayer Rank of Gunnery Sergeant (Grade 1)?-- AJFile:ArmyJROTC.jpg 17:30, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Platoon Leaders?

The article says that Johnson was a "platoon leader," but platoon leaders are always officers, usually a 2nd Lt. Is it supposed to say "platoon sergeant?" That would make more since as most Marine Corps platoon sgts are Staff Sergeants. Iceman117 04:18, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

It's not unheard of for a SSgt to lead a platoon, particularly during personnel shortages, e.g. the actual platoon leader getting killed. SmokeSound off! 19:29, 18 June 2012 (EDT)
