The novel follows the journey of Chakas and Morning Riser, former companions of Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting, as they are forced to make their way through a battle between the Precursors and the Forerunners.[1] Greg Bear has hinted at a connection between John-117 and one of his human characters.
