The Gorgon-class heavy destroyer was a warship classification in the UNSC Navy. It was the first vessel within the UNSC Navy to be equipped with a Magnetic Accelerator Cannon, a weapon system that would later become the standard armament of most UNSC naval ships.[note 1]
Overview
The namesake vessel of the the Gorgon class was commanded by then-Captain Preston Cole. It was used to engage the insurrectionist vessel Bellicose on three occasions.[1] The warship was capable of firing only three MAC rounds before needing to resort to other armaments.[2]
Trivia
In Greek mythology, the Gorgons were a group of female beings with hair made of living snakes. Anyone who met their gaze was said to turn into stone.
