The TurboGen Spade is a civilian flatbed truck that was used by some of the settlers on the human colony world of Reach. It is powered by an M96 compound energy methane engine and features an independent-wheel drive system. Noble Team utilized some of these vehicles during the Fall of Reach.[1][2]
Trivia
- The Spade only appears in two campaign levels in Halo: Reach, Winter Contingency and Tip of The Spear.
- Jorge-052 is able to mount his machine gun on the frame of the truck, making an improvised Warthog. However, he can only aim forwards and sideways to a small extent.
- Oddly, the vehicle uses the Warthog tags as its own; If the player approaches Jorge while he is riding the vehicle, a message "Hold X to ride in Warthog" will appear instead of the vehicle's own tag. This is more difficult on solo, as Jorge will jump out as soon as you leave the vehicle. In the after-game stats, as well as on Bungie.net, kills with the Spade will appear as Warthog kills.
- In the front of the truck, there is a V-shaped badge on the bonnet, and a white R printed next to the headlights. The words ACTIVE TRACTION are printed on the side of the truck. Similarly, the words "SPADE" and "INDEPENDENT | WD" are printed on the back of the truck. INDEPENDENT | WD refers to the way each wheel is powered independently. The words TurboGen M96 Methane - Compound Energy are printed on the driver's side, indicating that the vehicle uses compressed natural gas for fuel, in contrast to hydrogen, which is used in the Warthog and the Mongoose.
- The logo on the hood is similar to that of the Dodge Ram, with the horns modified to look like spades.
- The Spade appears in four different color schemes during the campaign: one in yellow and red, another in a sage color, a third with a navy color scheme, and another one in matte gray.
- Like most civilian vehicles, the Spade's horn can be sounded continuously without pause, unlike the warthog or mongoose which cannot do so.
