"With this sacrament of blood we journey into the Divine Beyond."
— Sangheili Field Marshall's mantra.

A Sangheili Field Marshall[1] is a very high Sangheili rank in the Covenant army.

Designation

Role

The Field Marshall rank falls under the Zealot-class, but appears to outrank regular Zealots. Besides leading large-scale ground operations, Field Marshalls are known to lead small strike teams comprised of Zealot officers for operations that require both skill and precision to take out key targets to turn the tide of the war/make a key difference. The Field Marshall is the highest combat related rank a sangheili can achive. [2] Template:Conjecturalization The Field Marshall is theorized to be a principal, top-tier rank in the Covenant Army. Their designated role seems to pertain to command of ground forces in specific field operations, such as in widespread battles or invasions. Field Marshalls apparently outrank Sangheili Generals, and may be of a higher position than normal Field Masters. Field Marshalls appear to be Sangheili equivalent of the Brute Army Commander or a Supreme Commander in the Covenant Navy. It's possible that they are responsible for all ground operations on a planet. Template:Conjecturalization End

Appearance

The Sangheili Field Marshall's armor design is similar to that of most other Sangheili warriors during the Fall of Reach. For example, the Marshall's armor is appears to be a combination of a Zealot and a General in terms of aesthetics and overall design. The helmet is nearly identical to the Zealot helmet, save for two spike-like protrusions at the top of the helmet. The core body piece of the armor is identical to the Zealot armor. The shoulder pauldrons are almost identical in structure and shape as the General's, although the ornamentation is blue rather than yellow. Essentially, as with all other Sangheili warriors' appearances during the Fall of Reach, the Field Marshall's armor has tones and hues of dark violets and blues. The armor is an affirmative appearance of Covenant construction. Overall, the field Marshall's battle attire is less ceremonious and designed for optimum efficiency in battle, while still emulating the traditionally sleek battle armor worn by the Sangheili throughout the Ages.

Trivia

  • While only one Field Marshall is fought in-game during Halo: Reach's campaign, several sightings occur. The first Field Marshall is seen in Winter Contingency during a cutscene, and while he escapes and cannot be fought, his Zealot accomplices can be killed. The other Field Marshall encounter is at the end of the level The Pillar of Autumn, blocking Noble Six from the Onager. It is possible that this is the same Field Marshall encountered in the level Winter Contingency.
  • On ONI: Sword Base, a BOB wearing white-coloured Sangheili armor appears when Six returns to Sword Base's courtyard. It has randomly generated armor, and it is possible for it to be wearing white-colored Field Marshall armor.
  • In Halo: Reach, the Field Marshall and Zealots are the only Sangheili classes that cannot be fought in Firefight.
  • On Legendary and sometimes Heroic, the Field Marshall can withstand a direct Spartan Laser hit from a distance.
  • The armor of a Sangheili Field Marshall is available as an armor permutation for Sangheili players that have reached the rank of Lt. Colonel in Halo: Reach. It is the last armor permutation an Elite character can receive.
