The 105mm Rail gun[1], or the 8 MJ LRG Rail Gun[2] as it was formally known, was a magnetic acceleration weapon used on the SP42 Cobra and as a weapon attachment upgrade to a standard UNSC prefabricated base turret. It primarily was designed for use against enemy fortifications, but excelled at taking down vehicles as well. When used on the Base Turret, the rail guns add a bonus antivehicle attack to the turret and possess the ability to deliver a super-dense 105mm slug at high speeds to disable vehicles. - "8MJ" may refer to 8 Mega-Joules, or the energy required to operate the weapon attachment, but this is just pure speculation.
- Much like how the Base Turret's M202 XP Machine Gun may be detached at will, the Rail Cannons most likely can act as stand-alone weapon emplacements or be attached to other vehicles.
