A Landing Zone, consigned LZ, is the military term for any area where aircraft such as dropships are able to land. A Landing Zone can have many functions, but normally the term is used to describe a combat area where a dropship must land in order for its passengers to disembark or be retrieved such as for emergency evacuation.
