Try to turn on Famine and Tough Luck skulls. Unfortunately, it is hard to turn on 4 skulls in this level as the long nature of the level is just too stubborn to work with. At the start, you are sniping. Then, you're on the road. Then you stop and get into a scorpion. Next you stop again to get through a [[Forerunner]] construct after which you get into another Scorpion again. After that you go on foot to enter the massive fortress-like construct and finally end the level. See, every part of the level has characteristics of a few different levels. Best is you play this on Heroic and fast. Try to score as many head-shots at the start of the level because you're going to need them.

Another method is to play at normal difficulty with the Tough Luck, Catch, Thunderstorm, Tilt, and Mythic skulls.  Starting from Rally Point Alpha allows you to bypass the Hunter battle (which is exceedingly difficult with these skulls).  Although no time bonus is available, there are more than enough targets to get over the 50,000 mark, and you don't have to worry about time.  You also can get lots of style points by constantly sticking enemies with the plethora of grenades that they drop.

A great way to get all the meta game achievements is to go through on normal with Tilt, Mythic, Thunderstorm, Cowbell, Grunt Birthday Party, IWHBYD (optional), Tough Luck, Famine, and Fog. Doing this will usually net you 2+ times the amount of points you needed to get the achievement (Example: 132452 on The Ark where only 50000 is needed).

Ranger is a Halo 3 Meta-Game Achievement. It is earned when the player earns 50,000 points while playing the meta-game on The Ark. This Achievement gives 10 Gamerpoints to the player.

It is represented by a blue circle with a target, also known as the "Bullseye" emblem. It is probably called Ranger because the first section on the level focuses on sniping Covenant enemies; since a ranger acts as a scout of a larger military unit, often armed with mid-to-long range armaments to befit their role. It could also be that the Master Chief and Marines sent in through the atmosphere are supposed to secure a landing zone for the Forward Unto Dawn. This would make them Rangers, or Scouts. Or, since The Ark is one of the longest levels, it could refer to the long distances you have to traverse.

Trivia

In the Halo 3 Ultimate Guide Magazine, it stated you needed 15,000 points which is untrue you need 50,000.
