The UNSC Aegis Fate, Hull Classification Symbol FFG-307, was a frigate of the UNSC Navy [1].
Background
The Fate took part in the futile attempt to stop the Prophet of Truth above the Ark's Portal where it is seen firing MAC rounds at the Forerunner Dreadnaught alongside the Forward Unto Dawn and another unnamed frigate. It followed the Covenant Separatists' First Sangheilian Fleet into the portal and survived the engagement between the Elite's and the Covenant Loyalists' fleets. In the ensuing Battle of Installation 00, the Aegis Fate was last seen in a stationary position in the atmosphere of the Ark over a Brute encampment in the desert regions. The Aegis Fate was believed to have played a role in leveling Brute resistance in their desert encampment and have deployed two Elephants and one Albatross, 03, that were found near the battle area.
Assignment
It was assigned to the UNSC Home Fleet during the First and Second Battle of Earth when the confrontation concluded with the Covenant Loyalist withdrawal through the Forerunner Portal.
The Sangheilian Fleet pursued them several hours later through the Portal, and the UNSC Aegis Fate was one of the UNSC warships attached to the Elite fleet as well as the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn.
Behind the Scenes
The UNSC Aegis Fate can be seen if one looks towards the northeastern[2] patch of uncloudy sky on the Halo 3 multiplayer map Sandtrap.
UNSC Battle Cruiser

Prior to Halo 3's release, the Aegis Fate was thought to be a UNSC Battlecruiser, and descriptions found in the Halo 3 Beta described it as such[3]. Estimates of its size, armaments, and capabilities, using the Super Star Destroyer ships from the Star Wars series[4] against the Covenant placed it as one of the most powerful ships in either sides armadas - ironic, then, that it turned out to be one a frigate, one of the UNSC's less effective ships, in the final game.
Miscelleaneous
It was found that a glitch allowed the camera to get past the boundaries of the map and roam freely outside of it. You can see this on this youtube video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdCQyWOGLjk.
