MISSING: Calico cat - answers to Jonesy
Jonesy was a calico cat carried on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn. It was probably a pet of someone onboard the Autumn and was onboard during the Battle of Reach and when the Autumn reached Installation 04. However, Jonesy's owner had lost him by then, although he put notices on the Bulletin Board to alert other personnel to the lost cat. Jonesy is assumed to have died during the Battle of Installation 04 either during the Covenant boarding, when the Autumn crashed, the Flood Invasion, or when John-117 and Cortana initiated the catastrophic wildcat destabilization of The Pillar of Autumns engines that destroyed Installation 04. However, for a cat to have survived that long is unlikely. There is also an apparent silhouette of a cat in the bottom right hand side of the poster, although it could be a black cat.
Trivia
- Jonesy is a direct reference to the cat Jonesy from the first two Alien films.
- On the level "Crows Nest" in Halo 3, there is a pile of garbage located near the toilets in the level. One of the pieces of rubbish is a note which is half covered up, but reads "Still missing my cat Jonesy".
- A similar poster can half be seen in the rubble on High Ground. You can see a picture of a cat and the word "missing" and "onesy" which is more than likely just "Jonesy".
- It's probable because of the note in Crows Nest that the cat was actually owned by a surviving Pillar of Autumn marine (Dubbo, Stacker, Johnson, etc.)
- Although intended as a mere easter egg, Jonsey may be the ships mascot. Individuals in military service can't own a pet whilst deployed, but ships and even planes have been known to have animals such as dogs and cats as mascots.
- On the Pillar of Autumn, one poster can be found in the hall just outside the Bridge.
- The poster can be seen on several other boards throughout the level.
