Lekgolo worm

Summary

The Lekgolo (Latin Ophis congregatio) are a species of small colonial worm like creatures that can join together to form purpose specific assemblages, such as Mgalekgolo

Mgalekgolo are commonly referred to by Humans as Hunters. The cores of Scarabs are also seemingly made up of Lekgolo worms.

Every worm-like creature is an individual eel about 1.4 meters long, with its own neural central system

These worms isolated Mendicant Bias from the rest of the Forerunner Dreadnought when it tried unsuccessful to escape from High Charity

Combat

Lekgolo fight in pairs as mates (which is why one of the Hunters become enraged when its partner is slain), they have blue, metallic Armour that reduces damage of most weapons to virtually nothing, however, they do have their orange flesh exposed at the neck, stomach and back. However the Shield (which they occasionally use as a weapon) they possess on their left arms protects their stomachs, they will keep their heads down to protect their necks, and seeing as they will be facing their target, their back is protected unless something can get behind them.

With all this armor and the Hunter's immense size and strength make them formidable, even overwhelming melee opponents, but they also have a feature built into their right arms, a Fuel Rod Cannon. This Fuel Rod Cannon fires large green beams at the target one at the time at a very low rate of fire. A 'buzz' is heard before and during firing.

Tactics

• The best thing to combat a Hunter is a high powered weapon, like a Rocket Launcher or Turret weapon.
• Getting behind the Hunters and quickly causing damage to their backs, or sticking them with a plasma or spike grenade, before steeping away from their strike as they turn around, is a good option.
• For help with a back attack, Allies are good for a distraction while preparing a back-attack.
• At range, Hunters will use their Fuel Rod Cannons, but this is easily avoided by strafing or hiding behind cover.

Trivia

• "Lekgolo" is Tswana for "one hundred", probably a reference to their hive-like physiology.
• Lekgolo blood smells like burnt plastic.
• Claims that Lekgolo worms have been seen in the vulnerable area of Scarabs have given rise to speculation that Lekgolo operate the heavy weapons platforms for the Covenant, though this has yet to be proven.
• Ophis means snake. Congregatio means assembly, society, union. Translated it means "assembly of snakes", no doubt alluding to their physical structure.
