A "carbine" is a shortened version of a full-size firearm. Generally, they are lighter in weight, but also are less accurate because of a shortened barrel. They may also be less powerful, especially if a shortened barrel is present. Typically, carbines use the same or very similar size and type of ammunition as full-size weapons would use, but this is not always the case. Due to the nature of Covenant weapons, a "carbine" may or may not fit this description, which is based on human-made weaponry.
There are two appearances of "Carbine" in the Halo universe:
- Covenant Carbine, a two-handed Covenant projectile weapon featured in Halo 2.
- Type-25 Carbine, a one-handed Covenant projectile weapon featured in Halo 3.
