A "carbine" is a shortened version of a full-size firearm. Generally, they are lighter in weight, but also are less accurate because of a shortened barrel. They may also be less powerful, especially if a shortened barrel is present. Typically, carbines use the same or very similar size and type of ammunition as full-size weapons would use, but this is not always the case.
