Intact colonies

In my opinion, I think it must have more intact colonies that glassed. I find it very unfair that there are more than intact colonies that colonies glassed. I think there must be more human colonies of the above. The human population of that time must be much more than the aforementioned. You have to give advantage to mankind. Think about it.

Survive as a species

Another detail to add

While part of the human worlds were glassed during the war, the human population did his best to survive.

The Covenant knew well where and how to attack. I think that by attacking a human colony, its main objectives were the most populated cities. And the people had to seek refuge, for example in places where the Covenant had little chance of finding them as forests, mountains and to a lesser extent abandoned cities. The most possible is that a developer armed "guerrillas" to deal with the Covenant.

Human power is much more than we think.
