- "It's a Warthog with rockets and it is awesome."
- — Bungie.net[1]
The M12A1 Light Anti-Armor Vehicle[2], abbreviated as M12A1 LAAV and commonly referred to as the Rocket Warthog, is a UNSC ground vehicle. It is a variant of the M12 Light Reconnaissance Vehicle.
Description
The M12A1 Warthog is almost exactly the same as the standard M12 LRV, except for a few differences:
- It has yellow paint stripes lined through the base, to distinguish it from the standard M12 Warthog. It is also painted black, different from the normal color of a normal Warthog, which is a metallic olive. The seats are also yellow.
- It is armed with a 102mm SC-HE Rocket Turret[2] on the back seat. The turret can fire three surface-to-surface rockets before reloading. Like all projectile weapons, it must be reloaded when the magazine is depleted. The reloading process takes about four seconds, similar to the reload time of a Scorpion tank in Halo: Combat Evolved.
- The tires are a darker color than those of the standard Warthog.
Appearances
In the E3 2000 Halo: Combat Evolved trailer, the featured Warthog sported a cannon that fired missiles like the M12A1 cannon, but looked like Halo 2's M12G1 LAAV's gauss cannon.
The M12A1 LAAV made its first in-game appearance in Halo PC's multiplayer mode.
The Rocket Warthog will be reappearing in Halo: Reach with a different rocket turret model.
Trivia
- As seen in Red vs. Blue Halo: Reach PSA: Deja View[3] as well as several earlier leaks,[4] a Warthog equipped with two missile launchers is featured in Halo: Reach. It fires three rockets per volley every two to three seconds, and the reticle appears to be identical to that of the missile pod from Halo 3.[5]
