They appear similar to Forerunner Sentinels at first but, are actually far less advanced than the ancient machines.[1] It is also possible the UNSC uses the MAKO's for scouting as well as attacking.

Some MAKO drones were taken and used by the United Rebel Front at Camp New Hope.[2]
