It could just be that the Assault carrier got redesigned to be larger for Reach, like a bunch of other vehicles were. The banshee from Halo 1 is different in size and shape from the one in Reach, but it's accepted that they're the same vehicle. Likewise, maybe the Assault Carrier just got an update in terms of size.
