Template:Ship The UNSC Frigate is a common starship classification amongst the UNSC fleet. Although it is significantly weaker in armor and armament compared to its larger cousin, the UNSC Destroyer, the frigate is smaller (thus more maneuverable). It is cheaper to produce, allowing greater numbers to be fielded against the Covenant.

Combat Effectiveness

With current human technology, the UNSC frigate is barely a match for even the smallest Covenant vessel. It is outrun by even larger Covenant vessels, its armor susceptible to enemy pulse lasers and plasma torpedoes, and its weaponry substandard. Only en masse does the UNSC frigate give any United Nations Space Command fleet element an advantage in the war against the xenocidical Covenant.

Layout

The bridge of a UNSC Frigate is located at the bow of the ship, in the upper section of the fork. The CO's chair is located behind the two primary consoles within the bridge, which in turn are located in front of a large window which gives a view of space. There are numerous other consoles located at the sides of the room.

UNSC Frigates also possess at least one HEV Bay which facilitates the deployment of ODSTs.

As demonstrated in Halo 2 and 3, UNSC Frigates (specifically the Forward Unto Dawn and In Amber Clad) are capable of hovering in an atmosphere, and possibly landing. They also have either a garage or cargo bay in their rear section which is capable of extending out of the ship's ventral side to deploy vehicles or cargo directly to the ground.
