Carmichael is a SPARTAN-IV supersoldier assigned to the UNSC Infinity. During the Requiem Campaign in February 2558, he served as Fireteam Shadow's mission handler, and on February 14 was involved in directing Shadow during a mission to destroy a Covenant summit site.[2][3] During the mission, Carmichael was overruled by Jared Miller, who co-opted Fireteam Shadow during an attack on the Refuge. Miller apologized for going around Carmichael to get their assistance, before proceeding to direct Shadow on a mission to destroy the Zanar-pattern light cruiser, Panom's Canticle.[1][2][3]
Following Canticle's destruction, Carmichael resumed operational control of Shadow and quickly put them back to work - with Horatio Fry joking that he "was feeling left out of all the fun".[2][3]
