This Erőd-class orbital weapon platform[3] is a classification of orbital defense platform utilized by the United Nations Space Command. They were prominent as the primary ODP classification present during the defense of Reach.[1][2]
Overview
The station has a similar overall design to the Moncton-class orbital weapon platform, though lacks the Moncton's large habitation ring surrounding the gun mechanism. Two frigate docks are present to allow a friendly warship to dock at the station. The station itself has a height of around 2,400m (2,620ft),[Note 1] roughly double that of the Moncton. The longer acceleration channels on the OWP's spinal coilgun allow the projectile fired an extremely high muzzle velocity, capable of being fired at "point-four-tenths" the speed of light.[4][Note 2]
The outer hull of the station is coated in the dull grey characteristic of Titanium-A battleplate,[1] as opposed to the white durasteel of the Moncton-class.
Armament
This class of OWP has equipped a rapid fire Super MAC,[1] that was among the most powerful ever built. The MAC was powered by ground-based reactors.[2]
Stations of the line
As with Moncton-class orbital weapon platforms over Earth, Erőd-class weapon platforms over Reach are named after cities on the planet below. The Erőd-class itself takes its name from Erőd, a region on the surface of Reach.
- Quezon Station (Named after Quezon)
- The station Casimir Station also shares its name with a city on Reach, indicating it may be part of the same class.
History
During the Fall of Reach, the Covenant targeted the Erőd-class stations and their generators on the surface of the planet.[3]
