The DTM Series is a line of shotguns made by Weapon System Technologies, based on Misriah Armory's highly successful M45 shotgun.[1] 20 gauge and 10 gauge models are available on the civilian market, though 8 gauge versions are sold only to law enforcement and military agencies.[2] Over the course of their service with the UNSC, the military variants of this series have accrued an enormous variety of colorful nicknames from those who used them. These include (but are far from limited to): "The Hammer", "Deck Clearer", "Mop", "Broom", "Universal Translator", "Boomstick", "Hick Stick", "Thunderer", "Betsy", "Equalizer", "Waster", and "the Okay-47".[3]
Variants
- M90 Close Assault Weapon System - Functionally equivalent to Misriah's M45E Tactical Shotgun[4]
- M90A Close Assault Weapon System - Functionally equivalent to the standard M45 Tactical Shotgun[2]
- WST DTM/Law Enforcement - Variant marketed to civilian police forces[2]
UNSC remarks
The following remarks, relating to the military variants of the DTM series, were obtained by Dr. Robert McLees as part of his document Machines, Materiel and Munitions from the Human-Covenant Conflict, 2525 - Present from anonymous members of the UNSC Marine Corps unit E2-BAG/1/7.[2][5]
- “The kick is milder with the As — not that it was that bad to begin with — sometimes progress just seems like change, if you catch my meaning.”
- “The adjustable stock on the M90 works just fine, but I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for the WST DTM/LE model — old habits die hard, I guess.[Note 1]
- "I believe that the sound of racking the pump of a shotgun is universally recognized as "kiss your ass goodbye"."
- “Actually, I think the jury is still out on whether it means ‘STFU and STFD’ or ‘you ain’t gonna make it.”
- “The action I saw against the Flood on Delta Halo was pretty limited — thankfully — and you would think that the M90 would be the ultimate anti-Flood weapon, right? Except that a shotgun is effective because it delivers a massive shock to a delicately balanced system of organs and the Flood don’t have that delicately balanced system of organs — it’s like shooting a mike foxtrot tree! All you can really hope to do is disassemble them as rapidly as possible in the correct order.”
- “The shotgun is a specialist weapon — it has its uses, but they are limited. Maybe it is more accurate to call it a tool, as opposed to a weapon?”
- ^ CPL GROVE, ROBERT 081225-78081-RG was employed as a law enforcement officer in Elysium City prior to entering the Marine Corps; he is referring to the WST DTM/LE (law enforcement) model which had a solid stock and no pistol grip.
