A pistol, otherwise commonly known as a handgun, magnum, sidearm or PDW, is "a firearm that can be held and fired with one hand". There are many different pistols in the Halo universe used by various factions and species.
Human
- M6 series - A series of pistols by Misriah Armory.
- M6A - Standard issue/black polymer finish.
- M6B - "Officer's model"—issued with smart-linked scope [KFA-2]/hard chrome finish.
- M6C - "Up-sized", standard issue/black polymer finish. Featured in Halo 2, Halo Wars, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo Wars 2.
- M6C/SOCOM - Accurized—issued with smart-linked scope [VnSLS/V 6E]/black polymer finish. Featured in Halo 3: ODST.

Unidentified pistol usages
During the Covenant's invasion of Harvest in February 2525, ONI operative Jilan al-Cygni used an unidentified black pistol, small enough to fit inside her palm, to pacify Governor Nils Thune when he refused to step down from office. As the weapon was loaded with tactical training rounds, Thune was merely rendered unconscious, not killed.[1]

- Unidentified pistol - During the Battle for Zeta Halo; Marines stranded on the ring made use of several pistols that they often holstered onto their hip.[3]
Covenant
- Type-25 Directed Energy Pistol - A common weapon used by Covenant infantry. Better known as the Plasma Pistol. Featured in all Halo games except Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite.
- Type-54 plasma pistol - The Type-54 Directed Energy Pistol (T-54 DEP),[4] also known as the plasma pistol, is the post-Covenant War successor to the Type-25 plasma pistol. Featured in Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite.
- Type-52 Pistol - A pistol-shotgun favored by the Jiralhanae. Better known as the Mauler. Featured in Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST.
Banished
- Disruptor - A shock pistol that fires electricity, initiates a DOT effect once 3 shots land on the same target, and disable vehicles in 7 shots. Featured in Halo Infinite
- Mangler - A Jiralhanae revolver that fire spikes similar to the Paegaas Workshop Spiker and has design inspirations of the Mauler. Featured in Halo Infinite.
Forerunner
- Z-110 Directed Energy Pistol/Exotic - Better known as the Boltshot. Featured in Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians.
